* Please note the change to the race start time due to ILL cats using the road *

Plus, there is a strong possibility it will be COLD, so please bring appropriate clothing for start/finish area and be punctual so we can get going on time!

Route Description: Snowshoe approximately 4km, Ski approximately 7km. Snowshoeing is first and will start at Mount Fernie Provincial Park, with snowshoers heading down Island Lake/Cedar Valley road, turning right onto Hedonism up onto the Powerline and back down Motorhead Road. Ending at the Island Lake Lodge Lower Parking Lot to either tag your teammate or transition to the Nordic Skiing portion of the race.

The changeover area and the Ski finish are both at the Island Lake Lodge Lower Parking Lot. Skiers will take the shortcut trail from the parking lot, joining the road leading up to the Upper Parking Lot, turning and coming back down the road, ending at the Lower Parking Lot. We advise Spectators to watch from this area.

There will be prizes for 1st-3rd in each category, with prize giving and post-race gathering taking place at The Bridge Bistro shortly after the race finish - times for this will be dependent on the race finish time. Friends & family welcome to attend also. Food & drinks will be available to purchase.

Terrain & Difficulty: Snowshoe: Hedonism is a narrow, winding trail through the forest that begins quite steep and mellows out substantially. Depending on the conditions, the trail may either be hard packed from previous hikers or deep powder from recent snowfall. Please allow faster hikers/runners pass. Motorhead Road is less used, and thus will be mostly untouched snow. It is wider allowing for more accessible passing. X-Country Ski: The nordic ski includes ups and downs in both directions. Difficulty is intermediate, we recommend all skiers feel comfortable with moderate descents. All portions of the nordic ski will be groomed and track set, but conditions will vary according to weather. Please be prepared for powder, slush and ice!

Costs: $30 Solo, $40 Team. Early Bird rates until January 28th, 2012. Then $35 Solo, $50 Team.

See you again next year!
