In 2014, you can race as a team or solo, with a 8.25km Snowshoe Run & 7km X-Country Ski (there will be both Classic & Skate categories). Whether in it to win it, or out for a fun Fernie winter day with the fam, we can assure a fantastic event. We look forwards to seeing you there!
There are also again a Kid’s Categories – with a shortened course of ~5km Snowshoe and 3.5km (one loop) Nordic ski.
Race Details: Race number pickup & waiver signing, will occur at the Island Lake Lodge Overflow Parking Lot from 08:30-09:30AM (MST). If you are trying to register on the day (will depend on race entries), please ensure you arrive at 08:30 AM. Compulsory race briefing for soloists and snowshoers will be at 09:45AM at the start line. Skiers will be briefed at the changeover area at 10:15PM. The Race will start at 10:00AM sharp.
Plus, there is a strong possibility it will be COLD, so please bring appropriate clothing for start/finish area and be punctual so we can get going on time!
Snowshoe: NEW! course in 2014 providing a great single track route, with undulating climbs and fantastic views. The Snowshoers go first, with the race start being at the Island Lake Lodge Overflow Parking Lot. Racers head up Sherwoody, taking Happy Gilmar, to Ben Emmet. Then Ben Emmet to Black Forest. Follow to the top of Old Goat, where you turn right and head down Old Goat, down Gorbie Trail, connecting back onto Sherwoody, back into the park and home…just like this…

The changeover area and the Ski finish are both at the Island Lake Lodge Overflow Parking Lot.
Ski: Skiers will this year get to race the NEW! Fernie Nordic Society trails. Starting from the parking lot, racers will head out for two 3.5km loops. *Please note: while we endeavour that the course will be track set for Classic, it will be conditions dependent.

There will be prizes for each category, with prize giving and post-race gathering taking place at the race finish area, shortly after the race finish.
Terrain & Difficulty: The snowshoe may be longer, but will less than half the elevation it’s a fun course through twisting forest trails. A gentle start, starting to climb until around the half way point, you then get a great fast downhill on Gorbie Trail back to Sherwoody and home.
The Nordic Ski has plenty of variety in the terrain with flat sections, small hills and a few more challenging ones. All portions of the nordic ski will be groomed and track set, but conditions will vary according to weather. * Please note: track set will depend on snow conditions.
